julie popa at suppose

Monday, April 27th, 2009

The exciting visits are never ending. We are fans of Julie Popa, who runs Sunflower Hill Designs, wrote the favorite book, Young at Heart Quilts (among others), and has her coming out next month for Exclusively Quilters (which we will be carrying in it’s entirety!).  We were thrilled to have her, her sweet mother Yvonne and her adorable kids in the shop last week.

Julie went home with bundles of fun fabric, and I can’t wait to see what she’s working on next!

pocatello visitors

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

More fun visits!  On Thursday, we were delighted to meet many of the ladies from a guild in Pocatello, ID on their way through town to a retreat.  These bubbly ladies turned the shop into a day-long party.

We love getting out of town visitors! And by the way, if there are any groups or guilds out there who want to plan a visit to the shop for more than just some impromptu shopping, we are happy to plan a demonstration, mini-class, or a fun activity of some sort just for you.  Just call at least a day ahead and we’ll customize something.

visiting south cache

One of the exciting things about running Suppose is meeting so many new people who are passionate about quilting, sewing, and fabric. This week we had the opportunity to visit and present to the South Cache Quilt Guild in Logan, Utah.

We had a blast seeing all the projects they’ve been working on, showing off our projects to them, and giving out random prizes.  We hope to see them all again very soon.

lush update

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

For those who are looking for the Lush fabric, we just want to update you on what we have available right now. Unfortunately we have sold out of the Paint by Number with deer.  What we have left from the Lush line are the Paint by Number backgrounds in blue and rust, Painter’s Pallete dots in blue/green and blue/green/orange, and Wood Grain in brown, light blue, and mint green.  This fabric is not being printed anymore, but you could cross your fingers and email Moda at and ask them to reprint it. It’s rare but possible that a company keep a fabric line going if it turns out that demand warrants it.  Sorry for the confusion, this will be much easier when the shop is up.

Randi’s First Quilt

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

It’s time to start getting to know the members of the Suppose team.  Today, I’d like to introduce you to my new sister-in-law Randi.  She helps us out with anything and everything.  She is new to sewing but I think she’s got the bug now.

sewing the binding

This week she finished her first quilt, a gift for a friend’s baby. Not only was this her first quilt, but her first applique and embroidery, which are featured in the center block.

Here she is with the nearly finished baby quilt, with an in-progress binding.  The outer borders are flannel, and the solid brown border is soft nu-suede, which adds some fun texture to the quilt.

We are pretty proud of Randi and can’t wait to see what she makes next!

In response to the response to the last post…

We are happy to take orders over the phone until the web shop is up, and after it’s up for that matter.  Here’s our contact info:

(ask for Jo)

You’ll find this in the sidebar as well. In addition, you can now .

By the way, these gorgeous ribbons arrived the other day. I immediately made a bracelet out of those little birdies on the bottom.

first web order!

Technically, the Suppose online store at supposecreatedelight.com is still under construction.  But that doesn’t stop the people from wanting the fabric.  We received our very first (unexpected) internet order the other day, conquered some technical difficulties, and got it sent off across the country.  Like the geek I am, I couldn’t resist taking a photo of it because it all looked so perfect.  These are paint by number fabrics from the Lush line by Erin Michael for Moda, plus some shot cottons from Kaffe Fassett. Our customers have good taste!  One of these days I will get to announce the official launch of the Suppose online shop. I wonder what these fabrics will become…

more creations

As requested, here is a look at some more of the things we’ve been working on.

jay mccarroll bag

I made this easy tote bag with the pattern Jay McCarroll gave out at last Fall’s Quilt Market for his debut fabric line.  You can find the pattern here on the Free Spirit blog.  I used giant button holes instead of giant grommets, and I added a birdie applique with button eyes.  I will have to write about my experience meeting Jay another day. But really, I am obsessed with his fabric.

I’ve also been sewing lots of pincushions lately.  I love that I can whip one up in less than an hour and have the satisfaction of finishing a project.   These are just a few we’ve been using in the shop.  (Links to the patterns to come.)

pin cushion mania

At least someone’s finishing quilts around here.  Our associate Jennifer made Paisley Party, from the free pattern Red Rooster provided for the Paisley Party line of fabric.

And another staff member Deonna made this little quilt, the pattern for which has left my memory for the moment.  These two are the only quilts hanging in the shop right now, as we are getting ready to hang our permanent quilt hanging system.  And oh are we anxious for that.  We have so many pretty things we want to show off!

So much more to come, very soon.
