Wednesday, February 11th, 2009Being that Suppose’ building is SO old, there have been many chances for things to get lost (or hidden) over the years. One day I came home to see the following on the kitchen island.
A receipt from the clothing store Luthy’s which occupied the building in the 1940s, according to the printed date. This receipt is for a blanket that seems to have cost $2.
Kid’s spurs in mint condition. Also from the 40s, we think.
Uncle Sheldon, the contractor, had found them in a dark, dank, closet under the stairs that I hadn’t dare enter. He’s also found some goodies under the floors, including this boot, which Mom thinks is from the 20s.
And various whiskey and soda bottles. But mostly whiskey.
Then Dad gave us a little history lesson about Preston. He thinks these whiskey bottles were thrown under the floor by Mr. Luthy, who apparently had a reputation for being a drunk. He also whipped out the hometown yearbook to show us what our building used to look like back in the day. He thinks that the storefront to the right of the one that says “Machine Company” is Suppose’ building.
Now we just have to make a place for Suppose in Preston’s history.
