weekend on the hollow

Friday, August 23rd, 2013

The kids are going back to school, but we need a little last hurrah while the weather’s still good. So we’ve decided to reprise our Retreat On The Hollow, but for 2 days instead of 1 this time. When you get into the flow, the more time you have to sew the better.  This is a great opportunity for a little escape and getting some projects finished. Here’s a little tour of the retreat spot at our co-owner Kathy’s home here in Idaho.

The house overlooks what is locally known as Creamery Hollow. Plenty of parking in the front, and plenty of privacy in the back.

The backyard faces east, so it’s nicely shaded most of the day. We set up to sew on the covered deck and in the living room just off the deck, so if you prefer you can have air conditioning and still enjoy the view. The light is gorgeous at dusk.

When we do these retreats, all the food is taken care: snacks, drinks, and every meal, most of which is catered by our local favorite, the NY Deli. We serve buffet style in the kitchen and there is seating enough for all in the adjoining dining room.

With this multiple day retreat, we’re opening up the guest rooms in the house.

Some rooms are big enough for a couple beds–it’s like Summer camp for quilters, except you’ve got en suite bathrooms! Yup, in every single bedroom.

quilting with a view

Thursday, August 22nd, 2013

It’s a good sign that I didn’t take tons of photos at our Day Retreat On The Hollow, because it meant we were having too much fun to even think about it. It turned out to be a perfect day.

Lovely company (even authors & bloggers)…

Everyone must be off refilling their Diet Coke, but there's Konda!

and a great view.

dusk on the hollow

It was such a treat to not worry about a single thing, have all the food taken care of for us, and just sew the day away. I even experimented with (virgin) mojitos, and they were a big hit! We’ll definitely be doing this again.

Day Retreat On The Hollow by Suppose

Dusk on the deck while sewing On The Hollow

We’re so excited for the chance to share this amazing space with you! Kathy (aka Jo’s mom/Suppose co-owner) is opening up her lovely home to us for an idyllic day of quilting. Both indoor and outdoor workspace looks out on a 180° view of the mountains. You’ll have nothing to worry about, as we provide lunch, dinner, snacks and drinks to keep you going all day.

We’ll meet at Suppose at 9am for a chance at before-hours shopping with a special discount, then head straight to our workspace (a 3 minute drive away). There attendees will receive a swag bag full of goodies and have all day and evening to sew on whatever they desire. Need help choosing a new project? We’ve got ideas, or pick up a kit at a discount. Have a technical question or need help interpreting a pattern? We’ll be available to lend our expertise. Run out of thread or break a needle? We’ll have it on hand, or send a runner to the shop to bring it back for you! Dinner will be followed by a trunk show that is not to be missed.  Hope to see you there!

To schedule a private Day Retreat or multiple days On The Hollow for a group, contact Jo at We’ll soon be posting more info on pricing and photos of the space. Just wait till you see the gourmet kitchen!

quilt sampler release party

Quilt Sampler
We had a 700 pound surprise a few days ago when boxes and boxes of Quilt Sampler Magazines arrived earlier than expected. The very magazine where you can read all about Suppose! It’s such a thrill to see our Colored Pencils quilt splattered across the glossy pages. The magazine is available in our shop already, but we’re gonna celebrate on the official release date on Tuesday, May 8 with some good times in our classroom.

Quilt Sampler Release Party

Tuesday May 8 9am-9pm

Colored Pencils
There’s tons going on that day, so here’s the nitty gritty.

  • 15% off store-wide sale (even clearance!)
  • 10am-4pm – complimentary chair massages by Heaven & Health from SLC
  • giveaways all day
  • see the famous Colored Pencils Quilt in person

Then from 5-9 the festivities really get serious…

  • 5pm – Free Paper Piecing Mini Class (so you can make the pencil points in the Colored Pencils quilt without fear)
  • Tons of yummy food provided by the NY Deli
  • Larger-than-life game of Pictionary
  • Insanely awesome prizes to give away, from charm packs to big bundles of fabric

You won’t want to miss these prizes. Lots of loot to go to many winners, from our favorite brands including Andover, Clothworks, Moda, Shannon, Quilters Dream Batting, Quilting Treasures, Timeless Treasures, and more.

We’ve got some adorable party favors too. That’s probably uncouth to brag about the party favors before a party, but they just make me smile and I can’t wait to give them out (starting at 5, be there early in case we run out!).

See you Tuesday at Suppose in Preston!

songs on the trail

shop hop poster

Get ready… Suppose is in our first shop hop ever! At just the time of year when you could use a little road trip, the Rocky Mountain Quilt Fever shop hop is the perfect reason to escape. The theme this year is “Songs on the Trail”… put April 22-May 7 on your calendar!

If you’ve never attended a shop hop before, here’s how it works.  You can start at any of the 11 shops in the hop where you’ll get a passport.  Each shop you visit will have festivities & prizes, along with a free bracelet charm and a free quilt block pattern so that you can make a sampler quilt.  You’ll also get your passport stamped at each shop, and if you make it to all 11, you can enter your passport in a drawing to win the grand prize.  It’s a pretty sweet bounty– a quilt retreat for 8 people plus a huge gift basket. Can you imagine? What a dream! There are also a bunch of runner-up prizes including gift certificates, and baskets full of goodies from your favorite notion & fabric makers. Kids can even get their own passports and be entered to win the junior prize basket.

We are the southernmost shop, and the hop extends up to Rexburg on the North, through  Jackson Hole, and to Pinedale, Wyoming on the East. The hop goes for more than two weeks so even if you split your traveling up between 2 weekends you can make it to every single shop.  Sounds like it’s time to gather your guild friends & sewing buddies and start the debate over who’s car is most comfy.

sunshine winner

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

Last friday there was exactly one month left of summer, till the September equinox marks the beginning of Autumn.  It was a good day to celebrate summer by having a visit from Julie Popa, the designer behind the Sunshine Serenade fabric collection, Sunflower Hill Designs patterns, and books such as Young at Heart Quilts and A Fresh Look at Seasonal Quilts.  Our customers were able to have a little discussion session with Julie and her fabulous mom Yvonne, where we learned all about Julie’s design process, her inspirations, and her future plans.  Their big task for the day was choosing a winner of our block contest in which local quilters made blocks using Sunshine Serenade fabric.  Glory and prizes went to Loenza for her basket block!

Though not usually a fan of baskets, Loenza thought the fabric called for it, and Julie & Yvonne agreed.  They loved the stripes, the engaging effect of the yo-yo flowers and leaves, and thought the 3-D appliqued butterfly gave it the fun the fabric was meant to inspire.  (It’s not obvious in the photo, but the butterfly is attached as though it was a real butterfly landing on the basket.)  We were truly impressed with the creativity of all the block contest entries and are so proud of our imaginative customers!  And we are especially lucky to have Julie and her talent nearby to encourage us in our drive to create. Thanks to everyone for making it a great day!
